Coastal Hearts

The beach has always been a romantic, soulful place to me. Waves crashing on the shore relaxes the soul. Sunrises and sunsets over the ocean are mystical. Each shell, chunk of coral, and bunch of seaweed our oceans toss out is a unique treasure for beach goers to discover and collect.

Couples young and old walk hand in hand along the surf. Not a word is needed as the ebb and flow of waves graciously fills the quiet. Young children build great castles. Young families frolic and laugh. All the while birds swoop and glide overhead and dolphins jump and dive in the water. The atmosphere creates warm fuzzy feelings despite the copious amounts of sand that becomes wedged in personal places. We are drawn to the shores again and again, ignoring the sticky, thick, salt air that covers everything in a dull film.

Therefore, it came as no surprise that I would stumble upon many hearts along the beaches of Florida on a recent trip to the Sunshine State.

My personal encounters with beach hearts reminded me of Drew Barrymore's hearts book entitled Find It In Everything. It is freeing, comforting, and inspiring to open our souls wide enough to see and experience the hearts and love that surrounds us every day, everywhere. Thank you, Ms. Barrymore, for your inspiration.
