About Micki

event, Dec. 2011, Asheboro, NC
Michele “Micki” Bare has been writing since the age of four. It was then that she and her cousin became pen pals, writing letters between family gatherings. She currently resides in Asheboro, NC. She and her husband have three sons, two dogs, and two cats.

Education
Bare graduated from N.C. State University with a BA degree in Speech Communication. She also earned college credit hours in early childhood education at N.C. State University and Meredith College.

Career
While an undergraduate, Bare taught preschool and was an assistant director for an after school child care program. Her first years after graduation were spent writing for the now-defunct Barnwell Banner; serving as a caseworker for the SC Department of Social Services; and teaching elementary school. In 1994, she accepted an administrative position as a Head Start director, which she held for 12 years. She served as the executive director for the North Carolina Head Start Association for four years. She then went to work for Trone Brand Energy, an advertising firm, where she held several positions, including copy editor and web content manager and strategist. At the end of November 2012, she resigned to care for her mom, who suffers from Alzheimer's. After her mom settled into assisted living, Bare went back to work; first part time as an associate editor of a parenting magazine and then reporter for The Courier-Tribune, then full time as the director of marketing and community engagement and outreach for the Randolph Partnership for Children.
